Custom Lettering Tips from the experts.
You're ordering some Double Tough duffel bags for camp or travel (or whatever, really), and you want to get the most out of your bag. Go the extra mile and add some custom hot pressing! It's easy, relatively inexpensive, and is the best looking way to permanently I.D. your stuff. And yes, we do have some recommendations, thanks for asking.
What colour letters should you get?
If the reason you are customizing your duffel is so that it will stand out in a crowd, white is the answer. It offers the highest contrast and sharpest look on all three colours of duffel bag. It is, of course, a personal choice: some people prefer black to match the straps/bottoms of the duffel, or red for the shot of colour. But for pop-out contrast, the pros go with white.
When should you order them?
Early. The Earlier the better. Now, in fact. It takes 5 days for us to process them and get them ready to go. No amount of pleading, bribing, whining or cajolery will change that. And the closer to camp it gets, the busier we get. The busier we get, the greater the chance of an unexpected delay. So the earlier you order the sooner you'll get your shiny new custom duffels and the less you'll stress.
What should you have printed on the duffel?
Keep it simple - less is better. Generally just a last name works well, especially if there's a chance of the bag being a hand-me-down or used for multi-purposes by the whole family. First and last initials also work well. Maybe a first initial & last name if you have a common name or siblings.
The shorter your customization, the less expensive it is: maxing out the letters (24) will add $48 to your duffel! That is just unnecessary when a first and last initial will get the job done for $4. Plus, filling up all the available space on the duffel with letters will have the opposite effect from what you're looking for. It will be cluttered and not stand out nearly as much.
So the pros definitely recommend getting your Duffel customized. But order early, keep it simple, and order white letters.
